The short version
Nasab is a local-first app. Your family tree, photos, and voice recordings are stored on your device. We do not have an account system, we do not run analytics, we do not show ads, and we do not collect or receive your data. A few features make optional network requests (maps, fonts, and iCloud sync), described in full below.
Who we are
Nasab is developed and operated by Nexudo. In this policy, "we", "us", and "our" refer to Nexudo, and "you" refers to the person using the app.
Information we do not collect
- We do not require an account, email, phone number, or sign-in of any kind.
- We do not collect analytics, usage statistics, device identifiers, or advertising identifiers.
- We do not include advertising or third-party tracking SDKs.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information, because we do not receive it.
Our App Store privacy answer is "No Data Collected."
Information stored on your device
Everything you enter stays in the app's local database on your device, including:
- People and relationships (names, kunya, gender, birth and death years in Hijri and Gregorian, occupation, place, clan, notes, and life events).
- Photos you add to a person.
- Voice recordings (memories).
- Your family trees and app settings (such as language and theme).
This information never leaves your device unless you choose an action that involves the network or sharing, as described in the sections below.
Permissions we request
We request device permissions only at the moment a feature needs them, and the app remains usable if you deny them.
- Microphone: used only when you choose to record a voice memory of a family member. Recordings are saved locally.
- Camera: used only when you choose to take a photo for a person's profile.
- Photo Library: used only when you choose to pick an existing photo for a person's profile.
We do not access your microphone, camera, or photos in the background or for any other purpose.
iCloud sync (optional)
iCloud sync is off by default and is entirely opt-in. If you enable it in Settings:
- A snapshot of your data is stored in your own private iCloud container provided by Apple.
- This data is transmitted between your devices by Apple's iCloud, under Apple's privacy policy and your iCloud account.
- The data is never sent to us or to any third party, and we have no access to it.
You can turn iCloud sync off at any time in Settings.
Third-party services
Some features make network requests to third parties. We do not share your identity with them; these are standard technical requests, and your IP address is visible to the service as it is with any internet request.
- Apple Maps and geocoding: the heritage map is shown using Apple Maps on iOS, and when you add a place to a person, the place text is sent to Apple's geocoding service to convert it into map coordinates. Handled by Apple under its privacy policy (apple.com/legal/privacy).
- Google Fonts: the app downloads its display fonts (Nunito and Tajawal) from Google Fonts on first launch, which involves a network request to Google's servers. Governed by Google's privacy policy (policies.google.com/privacy).
- Apple iCloud: only if you enable iCloud sync (see the iCloud sync section).
We do not control these third parties. Please review their policies for how they handle requests.
Sharing, export, and backup
You control all sharing. When you export a PDF, an image, a GEDCOM file, or a full backup, the file is created on your device and handed to the standard iOS share sheet. Where it goes next (a message, another app, a file location) is entirely your choice. We do not receive a copy.
Data retention and deletion
Because your data is stored locally, you control its lifetime:
- Delete individual people, memories, photos, or entire trees inside the app at any time.
- Use "Delete all data" in Settings to wipe the local database (and, if you enabled it, your iCloud snapshot).
- Deleting the app removes its local data from your device. If you used iCloud sync, remove the app's data from iCloud in your device's iCloud settings.
Since we never receive your data, there is nothing for us to delete on our side.
Children's privacy
Nasab does not collect personal information from anyone, including children. The app is a personal record-keeping tool with no social features, no accounts, and no user-to-user sharing.
Security
Your data is stored within the app's sandboxed storage on your device, protected by your device's own security (passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID) and iOS app sandboxing. If you enable iCloud sync, transmission and storage are handled by Apple's iCloud security. No method of electronic storage is perfectly secure, but because we hold none of your data, there is no central database of user information to breach.
International users
The app runs on your device wherever you are. The only data that leaves your device is described in the iCloud sync and third-party services sections, and is handled by Apple and Google under their own policies and infrastructure.
Your rights
Because your information stays on your device and under your control, you can access, edit, export, or delete all of it directly within the app at any time, without contacting us. If you have questions about this policy, contact us using the details below.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we do, we will update the effective date and publish the new version at the same URL. Material changes will be reflected in the app's next update notes where appropriate.
